Here’s what you need to know as we continue cleaning up after yesterday’s volatile thunderstorms:

Current Status:
All primary electric circuits are back online except for one transformer bank providing
power to one business.

If your service line and/or meter are damaged, or you are still without power, please call Osawatomie Police Department Dispatch at 755-2101 so city public works crews can assess the problem. For customers who had their meter ripped from their home, please have an electrician reinstall it so city can get it reconnected. Remember: You will need to apply for a permit so we can make sure it is done safely before we reconnect it.

Storm Debris

Crews are currently working to clear any major damage and large limbs which were pushed to the berm and parking areas last night to open roadways. They will also be clearing city property and helping assess any damage to those areas.

City officials reported three homes experienced structural issues, and several others have minor damage to windows and roofs. There were also several sheds and fences that were damaged from falling trees.

Any storm debris can be hauled to the city’s Forestry Disposal site from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. We are waiving the check-in requirement through the end of the day Monday, but we ask that ONLY tree debris and grass clippings be taken to the site. If anyone sees dumping of any other kind – such as regular household trash, furniture, appliances, etc. - please contact police dispatch immediately with any information.

If unreported dumping occurs, we will have to restrict hours, require people to check-in and possibly close the site until the illegal trash is removed.

Special Citywide Cleanup Monday

City Crews will be conducting a citywide tree debris pickup on Monday. All debris should be at the curb by 7 a.m. City public works crews will go through town once to pick up all debris, and will not return to collect anything else that was not put out earlier during the initial sweep.

We will not pick up damaged structures, junk or construction debris. Those items must be hauled to
the Miami County Transfer Station. Otherwise, residents should contact Waste Management 800-964-8988 to schedule a special bulk pickup.

The next regular bulk pickup will be Aug. 2, and storm debris will not be accepted.
